    A review from Trip Advisor:

Came on the 4th, after reading lots of mixed reviews , and LOVED IT!
I need to say first, that it takes a lot for me to give a super high rating of anyting. So, please keep that in mind. This will be long, hopefully you find the time to read this all the way through to really understand this little gem. If you read the menu, you will get the feel of the "Old Goat" under a description of a pizza, it says "only one add on, please don't ruin the damn thing" or something very close to that. We read a lot of mixed reviews and ended up at the goat, a little concerned, but, 1. they were one of the few places open on the 4th of July 2. the food reviews were wonderful 3. we don't have kids, so no issues there (it's basically a bar, so why bring kids anyway? 4. We were looking for something different. We went in with the expectation that service was probably going to be slow because the kitchen was small, that it's no frills, and that the owner takes pride in his product, believing it is great as it is. So, knowing all that....We walked in and were not greeted for a few minutes but it was the 4th, they were open, and they were BUSY!! My husband had a beer, I asked for a captain and coke and was told they only served wiskey and beer. (soda options too). Since I drink neither, I asked for water. We are pretty sure it was the owner serving us, and he said "from Captain to water? How's that happen?" We both thought it was funny, cuz yup, a big jump. The menu was pretty extensive, again, no frills, several pages of well printed paper brought to you, but not fancy bound or anything. We ordered the classic cheese pizza. There was a large group that had come in before us, and as we chatted, we could see that there were two people making the food. One for pizza and one for salads, sandwiches, both were moving around the kitchen like well oiled machines while the owner worked the bar and tables. Our pizza came out, no lie, only minutes after it came out of the over and got cut. It was CRAZY GOOD. We brought the left overs home and had them for dinner, just as good cold. The owner came over and chatted with us a while. "What brings you to Richmond Maine?" We had a good chat with him about our trip and one he had taken too. I see him as the no frills, don't mess around, don't push his buttons type of guy. He seems prideful of his business, and truly, he has a great place with great food. As a review I read says, "don't come starving, come to drink a beer (or water) while you wait." If you can recognize quality, local food and enjoy the ambiance, knowing the food is worth the wait, then come here. If you expect to be waiting on, and catered too, and your butt kissed, don't come here. Again, the food is amazing.... This is not a regular restaurant. It's small, specific, local. The owner knew so many of the people there by first name, it's that kind of place. It is not a cater to the masses type restaurant. But goodness was it worth it......and most importantly, though we were obviously not regulars, he was very gracious and wonderful to us.

    About Guthries
    Heather & Randy's Vision…

came from a desire to run a business that supports our family, our community, and our environment. First and foremost, we are fortunate to be family owned, operated, and maintained. The musicians, artists, and craftsmen that have graced our venue are a tribute to local creativity, talent, and expertise. We support Earth friendly choices through our purchase of biodegradable take out containers and utensils, our choice to recycle and compost, and our purchases of produce grown using sustainable practices. We support other locally owned businesses such as Coffee By Design, Homegrown Herb and Tea, Sugar Sugar, Borealis Breads, Damselfly Farms, Black Bear Brewing Company, Sebago Brewing Co., Backyard Farms, and Maine Root Handcrafted Beverages. We are excited to share these things with our patrons, who, with each visit, continue to make Guthries a reality.
